Chi- Rho Design

Just a little something I put up for Easter a few years back.

Its a Chi-Ro a symbol for Christ -ch is one letter in Greek and R or Rho looks like a P!

I may redo this or do a few new ones

Help me chose which Effingist design!

Here's 4 designs I've been working on using a made up word EFFINGIST (Copyright Julie Vaux 2017) They were made in #Inkscape and have yet to received their final edits.

It's meant to be used as an insult yet also for irony a comment on ideology.

Two New Typographic Works

Hey people here's two new typographic works in contrasting styles!

First a piece with texture filters playing on the depiction of Aussies having "rough" accents and our tendency to avoid palatalized final sounds in everyday conversations.

Second a piece demonstrating how Inkscape can be used to turn letters into objects and (semi)abstract shapes.

Both these designs are now available on Red Bubble on tees and stickers and other great stuff!

Silent Listen Digital Calligraphy?

Silent Listen and 2 Questions

How long do you think this take to do in #inkscape and how long would it have taken in traditional media?

Can it be called #calligraphy if tis done with a #computer?

I'm very pleased with this design for a variety of reasons and a primary one is how it demonstrates ... well for me the advantages of #digital #typography using #vector #ojects in an #inkscape workspace.

It could be possible to do this as a piece of #typographicart or rather #calligraphy since part of it would have to be painted or airbrushed using watercolor ink sponges etc watersoluble crayon or pencil but it would take hours or days including drying time.

By using #inkscape text changed to vector objects and filters I finished this in a couple of hours !

Also it works as conceptual art typographic art or dare I type "Calligraphy" ?

CHIRHO CHALLENGE

Lets see if we can create some interesting typographic art using the #chirho theme and #inkscape or #gimp or your digital software preference. Tag it #chirho or #chirhochallenge on Twitter FB Google plus or anywhere.

Look up ChiRho first.

Now you do not have to use Greek letters or Celtic Uncials unless you want to but please use a C or a Greek Chi x a H and an R or Rho?

Here's a couple of ideas I had !

These are COPYRIGHT even if they are just samples of design process.

Starting in #inkscape I created this.

After exporting a png version to #gimp I added some drop shadow.

I like the letter combo of the C and H but that R needs work! Maybe darker or a different font?

Back to the svg stage in Inkscape . I'll show you the next version in a few days!

Discarded Designs

DISCARDED DESIGNS

TV and other media sometimes gives the false impression one can whip up a design and finish it in a matter of minutes or hours never days or weeks.

Well yes sometimes one can be on a roll and get a design to finishing point in one day but I always try to leave the design for a day or two and come back and take one last look and THEN look at it on a number of browsers and sites.

Sometimes it looks great in Inkscape or Gimp but once I upload at a smaller or larger size to Facebook Google Plus or Twitter ro Red Bubble or CafePress or Deviant it looks different.

This series was inspired by 1 Corinthians 13 :13

Looks great expect for the little problem of the uncial t touching the i and making faith look like fath or fach on a small PR sized thumbnail

other alternatives I considered for this

I may yet use this but on dark colored tee shirts only.

and this is me playing with filter combos

Would work as a print on paper or an album or book cover but fabric ?

So finally I tweaked the letter spacing on the first design.

Hopefully it will now work at ALL sizes!

I've probably over emphasized the initial L but if it draws your eye to the rest of the lettering ...?
