Machinery as Sculpture One

#Machinery as #Sculpture One

The OED defines machinery as "having several parts" and being an "instrument that transmits force" ... an instrument ... so a tool that moves however those tools large or small often have sculptural and aesthetic properties.

Lets start the series by looking at two examples from #Sydney

This photography captures the crane itself and an painter's (not me) perceptions of the crane raising up again a blue sky!

Sydney is a working harbour. The next time you catch a ferry or a bus or train  as you move over or along a road or rail track or a bridge with a view of the harbour consider the beauty of various cranes for construction or cargo.

If you have ever been or plan to go into the QVB building near Town Hall if you have the time and have not already seen it go to the top floor and check out the central clock. This is one of the few examples of European style  clocks adorned with moving sculptures in Sydney.

Both machines both sculptures!?

Next post in this series we look at armour.

My tote bags on Red Bubble

I hope you're seeing a link to my tote bags on Red Bubble. I'm about a third of a way thru the update. Some older images need to be cropped to a square ratio and larger size and  reuploaded. If you see any flaws be patient folks. While I culled some stuff there's about 100 images to look at decide whether they'll work square and then do a test upload to see if they'll work without cropping and then ... well who thinks artists don't work ...ack by the time my new glasses arrive I'll NEED them and not just cos I damaged the frames of my current pair ... squint focus squint focus zoom in and out ... edit and tweak!

Kamisaka SEKKA at AGNSW

AGNSW
the Art Gallery of NSW currently has an exhibition of works by Kamisaka SEKKA and other Rimpa artists.

Here's one of the many fine works on display which include fabric designs, lacquer, ceramics, screens, and prints as well as books and paintings.

The exhibition is on two levels. You have to buy youR tickets at the main lobby desk and then go downstairs and after viewing there upstairs again. There are escalators and lifts.

Enjoy viewing these works if you're in sydney from June to August 26 2012.

Do note the exhibition is briefly closed July 23 and 24 as some of the more fragile works have to go back into storage to be replaced by others but your ticket covers both shows so you can visit twice!

finally here's the cover of the catalogue:
