The Hand that writes ...

While I was looking for Christmas art I came across this

Can you guess what painting this is a closeup from showing more detail?

Hint 15th century Florence Influenced many British "PreRaphaelites"

I also chose it because it shows us the process of writing an an actual pen being dipped into an old style ink pot so its relevant to this blogs themes!

You'll have to wait to the next post for a full view of the painting and some more details !

Inktober Black Matte Demo

 Inktober Black Matte Demo

#inkscape #filter #demo #Matte

I've taken one oblong filled with black and applied five different filters to create matte effects.
This time I'm not telling you which. I want you to experiment and practise.

There will be a few more of these!

INktober - thoughts on Black

 #black #color #inktober

ITs Inktober again so let us consider the role of black.

I'ld like  you to think about this old 19th German diagram not co sits OLD
but cos its STILL RELEVANT.

Whoever created it thought about transitions and gradients from white to black and vice versa and how black darkens other colors.

Here's another example the power of black to change colors from one of my older Inkscape demos.

For each row I shifted the colors further toward black.

There will be more discussion and demos of black and Ink throughout this month .

ENSO for Inktober

One thing you might want to consider for #inktober is doing #Enso.

These circles of #ink on paper are excellent brush practice for calligraphers and painters and if you do a particularly fine one you can use it for contemplation as it is a symbol not just of enlightenment but also of  MU.

I have some done digitally up on my Patreon JVartndesign if you'ld like to check them?

This one was done by Hakuin a Japanese Zen Master. Note how the ink has soaked into the paper giving a simple circular brush stroke texture and depth. Try some for yourself. Any thick paper. If you don't have Asian brushes use a brush tip marker or a watercolor brush with a long tapering point.

If you don't have actual ink its fine if you want to use paint instead!

Just have fun and practice! Let the ink flow !

An Inky A

 #ink #filter #inkscape

So you want letters to look more natural? Maybe you were in a hurry and couldn't find a calligrapher? Here's another of my hopefully helpful ink filter experiments.

Just adding the Ink Paint Texture Filter makes it look like you added more water to the ink but but using Duplicate you can restore the strength of the color but still add a factor of randomness that suggest ink on paper and since this is a Vector object you can before or after you export it to png add whatever stimulated paper texture background you desire.

Ice on INK

#ink #ice #inkscape

I just shared this on my #patreon but its open to all for downloading

As an experiment which I frankly wasnt sure would work I applied the Inkscape Snow crest filter over an older work but happy accident. Enjoy Share

To get a similar effect with other letters use a heavy bold or even super heavy font experiment with ink and gradient and add the snow last.

Xmas Reward tiers will be $1 $5 and a SPECIAL  December 12 for $12 dollars tier plus freebies on Patreon and Deviant and a few patreon only but free items

INK INK INK and an Inktober header

#Inktober still has a few days to go !
I hope you've found my education posts useful and inspiring!

A large version of this header will be appearing on either DeviantArt or Patreon
I havnt decided which yet. Some feedback can sway me! Freebie or Reward which will it be?

Yes this is #inkscape again. I combined 2 filters to create a "soaked-in" look. Enjoy!

INKTOBER TWO

I haven't even started looking for my actual pens and ink bottles but meanwhile for those of you who have digital pens or tablets or just like to play with Inkscape ...

Heres something you can use as a starting point
(yes I will also put it up on DeviantArt)

This dark mirror is two vector objects
The frame's a polygon with one filter added.
The "dark glass" is a simple oval filled with a gradient and just one texture filter added

Digital Ink Inkscape and Inktober

Been thinking about #Inktober

I usually don't have time to do a daily drawing but for those of you who prefer digital ink here's a couple of  rough sketches / ideas for using #inkscape

After you select the pen tool set it to dip pen this was done by finger on a touch pad kinda rough but you get the idea ?

Add one of the ink texture filters for a wet paper effect ?

INK whether its digital felt tip or pen enjoy playing with it !

Ink DROPS

No not Inkscape. This was created by a Wacom Bamboo mini tablet (ALDI SPL earlier this year so even I can afford one) and an Ink filter in Art Rage and it actually does look a lot like Ink dropped onto a slightly damp absorbent paper.

So if you have Art Rage with or without a tablet do experiment with the filters!

And yes it would be awesome to have a full Cintiq but even with small tablets or a laptop you can get some interesting effects and yes the tablet and pen will also work with Gimp and Inkscape.

Next post Easter cards! Have fun whatever your digital tools or toys are!
