Iron Man 3 oh those robots

What I'm reviewing a movie?

Why?

Well if you love good design and robots fess up how many of us watched the Iron man movies just for those robotic armor suits?

Plus the Iron Man series actually manages to depict the design process from initial concept to finished product and gives you some idea of the work and stress involved whether you have access to an array of high tech or whatever you can scavenge from a junk yard spare parts a garage or a hardware store.

Go on watch it! you know you love those suits!
 and the SFX too!

oh an done semi spoiler you'll work out why Ben Kingsley was willing to play the Mandarin when you meet TREVOR!

Post 150! Hieroglyphs

Wow Post 150 on Glyphika!

This is a book on Hieroglyphics you may enjoy and find useful for self study or teaching at several levels? It's a simple straight forward introduction to the glyphs and includes some basic  grammar with examples drawn from actual monuments.  Do look for it.  Its modern approach will be a relief if you have only previously had access to reprints of Budge's work or found Gardiner's book on Middle Egyptian more suitable for advanced college students?

If you really have some knowledge of this area you may find this compact sturdy hardback a readable useful size and format for revision and reference.

I've added three new designs to Red Bubble using a Lest We Forget theme recently.

One has a reference to Anzac Day and the second can be used for events of remembrance other than Anzac Day. Ignore the blank Bg. The Tees come in various colors!

Horn Books and Literacy

Although many of the surviving examples have frames of wood or metal its thought that at one stage cattle horn was used either for the frames or board in the frame.

These horn books are actually literacy primers. Notice the ABC followed by the Lord's Prayer. The idea was that children could copy the letters of the Abc and then since the Lord's Prayer was something they heard frequent in home or church they would be learning to read something they frequent HEARD.

The visual signs were matched to audio signals! Early Phonics?

The only examples I have seen come from England or the USA.

From the 18th century they were progressively replaced by printed versions "PRIMERS" which might include the ABC in upper and lower case  the Lord's Prayer and Numbers at the least.
